131. | DR079 | Dragon #79 | The article revising the Celtic mythos
in issue #65 lists some of deities as having
druidic powers of over 14th level. How is
this possible? | | Deities do not have any of the restrictions
placed upon them that mortals
have. A good-aligned deity may be able to
use assassin powers; neutral gods may
have paladin powers. The deities in issue
#65 with druidic powers of greater than
14th level should have the given level
apply where applicable for spell ranges,
areas of effect, and so forth that depend
upon the spell casters level. Taking a cue
from E. Gary Gygaxs writings on 15thlevel
druids in the same issue, a deity
with an effective druid level of more than
14th should have the ability to cast 6
spells of each level per day, plus as many
bonus spells as the deitys wisdom score
will permit. |
132. | DR036 | Dragon #36 | Why can’t demi-humans be Sages? | | Demi-humans can be Sages. However, they are not as
readily available as humans. Demi-humans are especially not interested
in answering adventurers’ questions. |
133. | DR134 | Dragon #134 | D&D: Is it possible for demi-humans to
follow other classes after they have
reached their maximum level? The
notes in the demi-human section of
the Companion Set Players Companion
(page 29) seem to indicate that
this is so. | | Demi-humans never follow other classes.
The notes that have you confused refer to
the increased fighting abilities that demihumans
can gain after they have reached
maximum level. |
134. | DR127 | Dragon #127 | BATTLESYSTEM: What exactly does the prohibition
against premeasurement mean? Do
players have to describe their units
actions in minute detail before placing
the ruler on the table? | | Detailed descriptions of a units actions
are not necessary. The premeasurement
rule is there to prevent players from using
their rulers as aids to decision making. For
example, a player cannot measure the
distance between his unit and an enemy
unit, then decide not to try to charge the
enemy unit because the distance is too
great. In this case, the player would have
to move his unit as close to the opposing
unit as its normal movement allowance
will take it. |
135. | DR121 | Dragon #121 | Oriental Adventures : Do monks get dexterity bonuses to
armor class? How about strength
bonuses to damage? Does a monk
get the AC modifier for his martial
arts style? | | Dexterity never affects the AC of a
monk. Monks never get strength bonuses
of any sort when using weapons or martial
arts. A monk gains either the armor
class of his style (AC modifier applied to
AC 10 or the AC of a common style), or
the armor class of his monk level, whichever
is best. |
136. | DR079 | Dragon #79 | Gems Galore (issue #72) does not say
how some of the gemstones described in
the article may be found. | | DMs may create their own random-roll
tables as extensions of the ones given in
the DMG (p. 26), for gemstones found in
treasure hoards in their campaigns; the
gems described in the article may be
included therein. |
137. | DR126 | Dragon #126 | Can the DM also play in a roleplaying
game? | | DMs should not be players in their own
campaigns; they are supposed to be neutral
and disinterested people who control
the action, resolve conflicts fairly, and try
to make sure that everyone has a good
time. The DM may control NPCs who join
a party and act like PCs, but this is not the
same as playing. When playing in someone
elses campaign, a DM is just another player;
he has no special rights or privileges. |
138. | DR043 | Dragon #43 | Im worried about my characters not being as
powerful as the other characters in tournaments. What type
of character will I need to improve my chances of winning? | | Don’t worry. No characters from campaigns are allowed to
be entered in important tournaments. Characters are provided for
players in such events, to ensure that no one character is the most
powerful and that all players entered have a chance at winning. |
139. | DR118 | Dragon #118 | I want to create a map as large and
as detailed as the map of Deepearth
on pages 76 and 77 of the DSG. The
blank maps included at the back of
the DSG use boxes. that are too large
for mapping at this scale. Is there
any way around this? | | Doug Niles rolled up into a ball and
thought about this one for a while. When
he unwound himself, he offered a solution.
Take the most suitable map in the
back of the DSG (probably one of those on
page 127) and enlarge it using a photocopy
machine. Then, take a straight edge and
draw a vertical line between each pair of
vertical lines on the blank map (these new
lines should bisect the spaces between the
old lines). Do the same for the horizontal
lines. You have now doubled the number
of spaces available for your subterranean
world. |
140. | DR131 | Dragon #131 | Do hold or charm person spells
work on draconians from the
DRAGONLANCE® Adventures world
of Krynn? Do rangers get giant-class
damage bonuses against them? | | Draconians are not giant-classed monsters,
but they are “persons,” and the two
spells you mention do affect them. |
