320. | DR134 | Dragon #134 | D&D: If a character actually gets younger
after drinking a potion of longevity,
does he also lose experience? | | No. Although the drinker does get younger,
he loses no experience. |
321. | DR117 | Dragon #117 | The Dungeon Masters Guide states
that there is no magical elfin chain
mail, but sets of +1 and greater
enchantment are listed in the
Unearthed Arcana treasure section.
Is this a mistake? | | No. Due to popular demand, magical
elfin chain mail has been officially added
to the system. However, elfin chain mail,
especially the magical types, should be
kept suitably rare. It is made by remote
elven communities, and should not be
commonly available. Indeed, it is logical to
assume that each suit of magical elfin
chain mail was made for a specific individual,
so some suits might actually be traceable
to an original owner. |
322. | DR056 | Dragon #56 | Do ex-fighters (such as bards) keep their exceptional strength
when they become a member of another class? | | No. For bards, this is a case of giving up something to get
something else: No character who is not an actual member of
the fighter class can have exceptional strength. But when the
ex-fighter becomes a bard, he does gain many benefits which
are designed to make up for the prohibition on keeping his
exceptional strength. The Players Handbook list 18 — not
18/01, or any other higher number—as the maximum strength
possible for all non-fighter characters. As soon as a bard-to-be
switches to the thief class, the character becomes a nonfighter.
And although there will come a time when the bard-tobe
regains the ability to use the skills he had as a fighter, he will
never again be a fighter. |
323. | DR034 | Dragon #34 | Can a thief wear studded leather? | | No. He can’t move silently because the studs will click on
surfaces he touches, and they will add extra weight, making climbing
up walls extremely hard. |
324. | DR043 | Dragon #43 | If a fighter has a basic dexterity score of 16 but
needs a dexterity of 17 to change classes and become a thief,
can he become a thief if he has a magic item that raises his
dexterity to 17? | | No. If he raises his dexterity to 17 by a Wish or by drinking
a potion whose effects are permanent, or by any other means which
bring about a permanent change, then it is permissible to change to a
thief. Simply possessing a magic item that raises dexterity to 17 is not
enough, since the raise in dexterity would no longer apply if the character
lost possession of that item. |
325. | DR132 | Dragon #132 | BATTLESYSTEM™: Does a unit need initiative in order
to execute a wrap-around? | | No. In order to execute a wrap-around, a
unit must start its movement phase in baseto-
base contact with an enemy unit. It must
have one or more figures that are not yet in
base-to-base contact, and it must have room
to expand its frontage. Only figures that
begin the phase out of base-to-base contact
can be involved in the wraparound. A unit
can perform wrap-around movement only in
its own movement phase. For example, a
unit that is eight figures wide and two figures
deep wins initiative and moves into
melee with an identical unit. In this case, the
enemy unit’s next movement phase comes
before the melee phase, initiative not withstanding.
The unit may use its extra figures
to wrap the attacking unit during this movement
phase. |
326. | DR058 | Dragon #58 | Could an elf or dwarf who has reached the highest level
possible use an Ioun Stone to gain further levels? | | No. Ioun Stones do not contain powerful enough magic.
None of the six stones which have the power to increase ability
scores can make them better than the mathematical maximum
of 18. Although no similar limit is specified for the power of the
pale green stone which “adds 1 level of experience,” it is unreasonable
to assume that this stone can exceed the prescribed
maximum (in this case, a maximum number of levels) when the
others can’t. |
327. | DR031 | Dragon #31 | Can a Magic Mouth spell be programmed to say
a spell? | | No. It states this clearly in the spell description, and I quote:
“It cannot speak magic spells.” |
328. | DR078 | Dragon #78 | Can a psionic character levitate himself by the use of the telekinesis
discipline? | | No. Like the spell of the same name, this power can only affect
things or beings external to the one employing the power, not
the user or caster himself. Note that live creatures can be affected
by telekinesis, and although the discipline allows for no saving
throw for its target(s), creatures and characters may use any
means at their disposal to negate the discipline or make its maintenance
more difficult grabbing a heavy object to increase
ones weight, or perhaps using a spell or other power to make
oneself larger and/or heavier. |
329. | DR119 | Dragon #119 | D&D® Immortals Set: Is it possible for an Immortal PC to
become an Old One and then reenter
the multiverse? | | No. Once a character becomes an Old
One, he wins and is never again seen
during the course of a D&D Immortals
game campaign. |
